  5. Mission of the Physical Evaluation Board • To determine fitness for duty. • To compensate members who are unable to complete their careers and to qualify for normal retirement benefits.

  6. PROCESSING TIME • Upon Entry Into DES - MEB Report 30 days from dictation to send to the PEB -Informal Board PRELIM FINDINGS 40 days from receipt of MEB Report -Formal Board FINDINGS 6-8 weeks from convening of Formal PEB - PFR 45 days from receipt of petition ALL TIMES ARE APPROXIMATE!!

  7. Possible Findings • Fit to Continue Naval Service • Presumed Fit • Unfit • PQ (inactive reserves) • NPQ (inactive reserves)

  8. Permanent Limited Duty • Unfit for duty • PERS-821 and MMSR-4 are the only approving authorities for PLD.

  9. Final Disposition • Member has less than 20 years and a disability rating of 0, 10 or 20% = Separate • Member has less than 20 years and a disability rating 30% or greater = Assignment to TDRL/PDRL • Member has 20 or more years and a disability rating = Assignment to PDRL/TDRL • CALL DFAS for specifics in your case!

  10. TDRL/PDRL • Disability Retirement – Unfit for military service with a 30% disability retirement. Your disability may be temporary or permanent. If temporary, your status should be resolved within a 5 year period.
