  1. Compromises – Then And Now

  2. The Scene • Israel is in Egyptian bondage. Exodus 1:8-11 • God has appeared to Moses. Exodus 3:4-10 • Moses has appeared to Pharaoh. Exodus 5:1-9 • God plagues Egypt. Exodus 7:14-12:30

  3. Sacrifice In Egypt Compromises Then And Now

  4. Sacrifice in Egypt Exodus 8:25-27 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.” 26 And Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not stone us? 27 We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as He will command us.”

  5. Sacrifice In Egypt Worship in the world Compromises Then And Now

  6. Worship in the world • I don’t need the church because: • The church is unimportant. • I worship God at the lake, golf course, ball field, etc. • They’re a bunch of hypocrites!

  7. The Church IS Important! • Acts 2:47 …And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. • Acts 20:28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. • Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

  8. Sacrifice In Egypt Shall not go very far Worship in the world Compromises Then And Now

  9. Shall Not Go Very Far Exodus 8:28-29 So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Intercede for me.” 29 Then Moses said, “Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the LORD, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.”

  10. Sacrifice In Egypt Shall not go very far Worship in the world Barely Enter Church Compromises Then And Now

  11. Barely Enter Church Attend services sporadically. Worship half-heartedly. Give sparingly. Love the brethren nominally.

  12. Barely Enter Church • Hebrews 3:13 Exhort one another DAILY while it is called today… • Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, • 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. • 1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

  13. Barely Enter The Church Revelation 3:14-16 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

  14. Sacrifice In Egypt Shall not go very far Let the men go Worship in the world Barely Enter Church Compromises Then And Now

  15. Let the men go. Exodus 10:8-11 So Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve the LORD your God. Who are the ones that are going?” 9 And Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we will go, for we must hold a feast to the LORD.” 10 Then he said to them, “The LORD had better be with you when I let you and your little ones go! Beware, for evil is ahead of you. 11 Not so! Go now, you who are men, and serve the LORD, for that is what you desired.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.

  17. Leave others in the world. • John 1:41-42a He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. • John 4:28-29 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” • Acts 9:20 Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God.

  19. Leave the flocks behind. Exodus 10:24-26 Then Pharaoh called to Moses and said, “Go, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be kept back. Let your little ones also go with you.” 25 But Moses said, “You must also give us sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God. 26 Our livestock also shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind. For we must take some of them to serve the LORD our God, and even we do not know with what we must serve the LORD until we arrive there.”

  20. Sacrifice In Egypt Shall not go very far Let the men go Leave flocks behind Worship in the world Barely Enter Church Others left in the world Treasure left in the world Compromises Then And Now

  21. Treasure left in the world. Matthew 6:19-21 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

  22. Treasure left in the world. • Matthew 23:12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. • 1 Peter 3:3-4 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. • 1 Corinthians 9:25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

  23. Don’t Compromise With The World • Set your mind to obey the gospel. • Believe, John 8:24 • Repent, Luke 13:3 • Confess, Romans 10:10 • Be Baptized, Mark 16:16 • Remain steadfast • Hebrews 3:14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,
