  1. TINA2000 Paris, France, 13-15 September 2000 Transfer of TINA Results to Standards Bodies KITAMI, Kenichi TINA Technical Architecture Board Vice Chair OMG Board of Director SG11 WP1 Chair Chair, Technical Assembly of TTC, Japan NTT Information Sharing Laboratory Group

  2. Objectives of this Presentation • Provide an Overview of TINA Results transferred to Standard Bodies • Secure platform to keep TINA Specifications • Ensure the effectiveness of TINA Technologies

  3. Collaborating Standard Bodies TINA-C has been contributing to many Leading Standard Bodies. They include: • The Object Management Group: OMG • TINA-C has Cross Membership with OMG. • TeleManagement Forum: TMF • The International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication Sector: ITU-T • Study Group 10: Telecommunication Languages and Software • Study Group 11: Signalling • 3rd Generation Partnership Project: 3GPP in collaboration with European Telecommunication Standard Institute:ETSI (SPAN3)

  4. Overview of the Achievement: OMG • TINA Access Session and Consumer-Retailer RfP Specifications have been reflected to an OMG Standard named as “Telecommunications Service Access and Subscription facility (TSAS)” developed by the Telecom Domain TF. • Through the merging process for TSAS, TINA Results has also been reflected to the corresponding Parlay Specification. • A White Paper for Open Services Marketplace (OSM) RFI was created reflecting TINA results by the active involvement of TINA-C members. • TINA ODL highlighted the Telecom Requirements for the Object Interfaces, and they are reflected in CORBA Component Model (CCM) approved this year.

  5. Press Release reporting approval of TSAS

  6. Overview of the Achievement: ITU-T [ Achievements in ITU-T SG10 ] • SG10 approved in 1999 the Object Definition Language as Z.130, based on TINA-C ODL. • SG10 will approve DPE Architecture as Z.600, based on the TINA DPE Architecture this November. [ Achievements in ITU-T SG11 ] • SG11 approved two Supplements covering TINA Business Model, TINA-C Service Architecture, Ret specification in its Q.1 for “Signalling and Protocol Framework for Evolving Environment (SPFEE)”. • SG11 also approved a Supplement (TRQ.2001) including TINA's "session" definitions and Business Model in its Q.6 for “B-ISDN Signaling Requirements”.

  7. Business model in TRQ.2001 approved by SG11 LRP-CC LRP-SS LRP-CS LRP-BB LRP-CB Broker Service provider LRP-SB Consumer LRP-RB LRP-RR LRP-CR Retailer LRP-SR LRP-CN LRP-NB LRP-RN LRP-SN LRP-NN Network connectivity provider Logical reference point designation: LRP-XY (between domain “X” and domain “Y”) TRQ.2001: GENERAL ASPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF UNIFIED SIGNALLING REQUIREMENTS

  8. Overview of the Achievement: 3GPP and TMF [ Achievements in 3GPP ] • 3GPP in cooperation with ETSI SPAN3 approved Open Service Architecture (OSA) containing specification relevant to OMG’s “Telecommunications Service Access and Subscription facility (TSAS)” which is reflecting TINA Access Session and Consumer-Retailer RfP specification. [ Achievement in TMF ] • The collaboration work plan is in preparation, including mapping between TINA business model and TMF business process, connection mgmt and reference points, and IP control mgmt issues.

  9. Ongoing Activities • OMG will continue to be a center of TINA-based Standard development in many areas including: TINA Service Architecture and Reference Points Specification, Resource Architecture, Computing Architecture and Compliance &Testing framework (CAT). • SG10 will continue to standardize "DPE architecture”. It will also foster the CAT Work with broader scope. • In 3GPP, TINA TSAS was reflected to OSA of Release ‘99. Reflection of TINA SA to Release ‘00 is ongoing.

  10. Ongoing Activities (continued) • SG11 proposed “API/Object Interface” as a new Question. It will foster the following activities: • Creation of Roadmap on related activities/results • TINA-related activities/results will be contributed to the SG11 Nov./Dec. 2000 meeting • It will refer the work of 3GPP OSA+ ETSI SPAN3 • IETF is developing standards influenced by TINA results: • TINA Business Model is identified beneficial for the work done within e.g. IETF Policy Framework WG. • Activity on Network Information Model based on the TINA NRIM has also been initiated. • TMF is developing standards covering Service Management and DPE

  13. New Question K: “API/Object Interface (OI) and Architecture for Signalling” proposed by SG11 What new Recommendations, new Supplements and what enhancements to existing Recommendations and Supplements are required in order to: • Provide a cohesive Signaling Architecture for: • Importing the results on API/OI of activities outside of SG11 • Developing specific APIs/OI not being covered by outside activities • Provide a Roadmap capturing the tasks and the results of all API/Object Interface-related activities outside of the ITU-T • Define API/Object interface based specifications for those areas where urgent need is identified: • This may include a possible reference to all or part of the results of other standardization bodies in a co-operative way, if appropriate.

  14. 15. Conclusion • Wide-spread TINA Technologies have been serving as a basis for the creation of a number of new standards by leading bodies including OMG and ITU-T. • A number of activities are still going on to develop new standards based on TINA Results. Emerging new standards include those for 3rd generation mobile communication systems by 3GPP andTMF for Telecommunication Management. • One can conclude that TINA-C results have contributed significantly to laying the foundation for the Info-communication Networking Architecture and have been successfully transferred to appropriate standard bodies.

  16. My personal conclusion Standards are, in reality, driven by individuals. Achievements introduced have been made by a number of dedicated contributors including: • OMG: Marcel Mampaey, Mike Schenk, Hendrik Berndt • SG10: Anastasius Gavras, Tolga Yalcinkaya • SG11: Hidetsugu Kobayashi, Rolfe Buhrke, Kenichi Kitami • 3GPP: Chelo Abarca • TMF: Takeo Hamada • IETF: Leif Byström

  17. Good luck for ongoing works and for those people supporting them ! Thank you very muchfor your kind attention !
