AMR received huge political attention in Netherlands Netherlands was heavy veterinary user of antibiotics • over 50% reduction of use in veterinary medicine achieved in 4 year time key item for Netherlands EU presidency in 2016 strong collaboration WHO and the Netherlands on AMR need for kick-start of WHO Global Action Plan joint effort of the Netherlands, WHO, OIE, FAO GHSA meeting Jakarta, August 20-21, 2014

The patients perspective • focus on what AMR really is: a patients problem: • After you take antibiotics, you’re cured, right; this is what we have come to believe. • Antibiotics are strong, they cure all, and they make you better, …until they don’t. • In your/her case, 7 out of 8 antibiotics didn’t work anymore….I’m on number 8 now. • We are facing a time that these medicines are failing us, and what are we going to do? • The solution will take all of you to act! • We should not be defeated by our own passive attitude.
