  4. Saibo Rack • Utility DC to DC Converter Unit (UDC) UDC receives 120Vdc safing power from a Power Distribution Unit and provides 28V DC Power to experiment equipments such as Micro-gravity Measurement Apparatus. • PEF Access Port for CBEF PEF Nozzle is penetrated into the PEF Access Port when the CBEF has fire. • PEF Access Port for CB • Cell Biology Experiment Facility (CBEF) PEF Nozzle is penetrated into the PEF Access Port when the CB has fire. CBEF provides a controlled environment for studying fundamental phenomena of life in the space environment, using cells, tissues, small animals, plants, or microorganisms. • Payload Power Distribution Box (PPDB) • AAA/SD P-PDB receives main power from a Power Distribution Unit and distributes power to JAXA ISPR Components and Experiment Facilities. • PEF Access Port PEF Nozzle is penetrated into the PEF Access Port when the rack has fire. • Utility Interface Panel • Maintenance Switch Panel (MSP) Utility Interface Panel provides following communication interfaces: 1553B, Ethernet, FDDI, and video. The MSP is used for redundant safety interlock. It is used to protect the crew during maintenance or installation activities. • Clean Bench (CB) CB provides a closed work space for aseptic operation in order to perform life science and biotechnology experiments.

  5. Ryutai Rack • Fluid Physics Experiment Facility (FPEF)) FPEF enables users to investigate the effects of the marangoni convection of the moderate temperature. • Image Processing Unit (IPU) • Protein Crystallization Research Facility (PCRF) IPU receives video data from cameras monitoring various experiments and from the Video Control Unit . IPU records, plays back, compresses, and outputs the data to the high rate data link for transmission to the ground. • Solution Crystallization Observation Facility (SCOF) SCOF and PCRF provides opportunities for fundamental studies of crystal growth of various solutions and proteins. • Utility Interface Panel • Maintenance Switch Panel Utility Interface Panel provides following communication interfaces: 1553B, Ethernet, FDDI, and video. 6. INCREMENT 17 OVERVIEW • Inc 17 was the first increment to conduct experiments in Kibo. • Initial checkout for Saibo/Ryutai rack was completed and some Japanese experiments were successfully performed. • In addition to JAXA PL racks, MELFI and ERs were transferred from USlab to JPM. JAXA PL Racks Checkout with Greg FPEF/Marangoni Exp Saibo/CBEF Checkout

  7. INCREMENT 18 OVERVIEW • Ice Crystal Experiments are going well. • From this increment, we are going to start Life Science Experiments (Rad Gene & LOH and Dome Gene). • A series of CGSE CO2 T/S was performed and now we think CGSE can supply CO2 to Saibo Rack. • In addition to JAXA PL racks, MELFI and ERs are in operations. 16. HOSC/SSIPC NEW GATEWAY BACKGROUND • It took too long time to complete Fluid Physics Experiment because the video to downlink from the IPU was more than we expected. • The HDTV System has been developed. • Bandwidth of all Ku band became 150Mbps. • Trans-Pacific goes down in price. Present ICD MSFC TKSC PDSS OCS 23.5Mbps GW GW >43.0Mbps Trans-Pacific Receive Capability:23.5Mbps Demand PDH Data: 0.5Mbps Mid Rate Data of Payload: 3.0Mbps All Ku band 150.0Mbps IPU realtime video: 43.0Mbps HDTV:27.0Mbps 23.5Mbps It is impossible to downlink realtimely.

  17. HOSC/SSIPC NEW GATEWAY Purposes for new Gateway are... • To downlink the video of the IPU in realtime to SSIPC at the maximum rate (43 Mbps). • To downlink the HDTV in realtime to SSIPC MSFC TKSC IPU or HDTV >43.0Mbps PDSS newGW newGW OCS PDH & Mid Rate GW GW Trans-Pacific Receive Capability:23.5Mbps
