  2. The Buzz About Bees What does the queen bee do? She mates with male bees. She normally acts as the mother to the bees. Her main responsibility is to act as a reproducer. She can lay up to 3000 eggs per day during the spring. What is a worker bee? What does the worker bee do? Worker bees are female non-reproducing females. They perform tasks to support the bee hive. They feed the queen and larvae, guard the hide entrance and fan their wings to help keep the hide cool. Worker bees also collect the nectar, make honey and produce wax comb.

  3. The Buzz About Bees What is a drone bee? What does the drone bee do? A male bee is called a drone bee. Their main responsibility is to be prepared to fertilize the queen bee. They only live for approximately 90 days. What kind of products come from bees? Honey, beeswax, pollen and propolis. Tell me about the products. Beeswax—A substance created by worker bees from their stomach glands. The wax is used to form comb walls and caps.

  4. The Buzz About Bees Pollen– Collected by bees and carried to the hives and used as a protein. Propolis– Also, called bee glue, comes from resins, balsams and tree saps. The honeybees use it to seal the cracks in the hive.
