Highlights of the Region RAC Meeting on 14 June 2012 Type: Meeting / Telecon Attendance: 11 Major Highlights: Section Officer Rosters Section Annual Reports, Audits RLC 2-3 August Atlanta GA Category III Funds Requesting from Iowa, Twin Cities and Wichita Section Awards! Region V Engineer and Young Engineer of the Year Section By-Law Status for Iowa One open DD Position • RAC Meeting on 26 July 2012 • Type: Meeting / Telecon • Attendance: 9 • Major Highlights: • RLC 2-3 August Atlanta GA • St Louis and Rocky Mountain supporting this year • Category III Funds Remaining • If Iowa, Twin Cities or Wichita do not submit will accept from St. Louis and Rocky Mountain • Sections setting up calendars for 2012-2013 Events • Section By-Law Status for Iowa

  3. Region V Professional Membership • From June 2012 Membership Report • Professional Membership: 1934 • Decrease of 6 since last RSAC (May 2012). Slightly up from last year • No trend by Section. Sections show slight up and down. • Student Membership: 572 • No Change since last RSAC (May 2012). • Most sections are flat. Rocky Mtn shows slight increase. • Educator Associate Membership: 313 • Decrease of 9 since last RSAC (May 2012) • Most Sections show slight increase. Rocky Mtn showed a large increase (Due to “Boot Camp” at AF Academy in July 2011) • However, Rocky Mtn had a decrease of 12 in June 2012.

  4. Professional Membership Observations • Region V membership has been trending flat from 2000 up to the decrease which started in 2009. Last year started an up slight trend which appears to be continuing into 2012. • Sections have been mostly flat with slight ups and downs over the last 6 months. Rocky Mtn had ~4% uptick over this period. • Short term trends over the past six months: • Iowa - 1 • Rocky Mountain +61 • St. Louis + 7 • Twin Cities - 5 • Wichita + 4 (Efforts working!) • Long term trends: • Regional membership has slight uptick from downturn in 2008. • Rocky Mtn showing a flattening on the growth over the past years. Has recovered the membership seen last year • St. Louis showing long term decrease but appears to be flattening • Wichita appears to be flattening the drop started in 2009 • Other Sections showing steady membership • Continuing focus on calling “drop”, “new” and “transfer” members • Sections not fond of having dedicated membership drives, prefer to concentrate on associating good meetings with new members.

Section Highlights • Iowa • Looking for enthusiastic individuals to join their Executive Committee • Understand have a new Chair from Iowa State (previous Chair) so hopeful that they will be re-invigorative • Not able to attend RLC this year • Reviewing Bylaws • Received email indicating they do not have any changes • Emily will work with Iowa on what updates are required to their 1995 approved version • Rocky Mountain • Supported STEM Academy and Training in July • Working on their Annual Technical Symposium in October • First Council Meeting 9 Aug • St. Louis • 21 June, Sharron Davis Executive Director of WASP Museum “Fly-Girls of WWII” • 10 August Friday Night Film Series “Fate is the Hunter” • 14 August 50th Anniversary of the Transonic Dynamics Tunnel, Stanley Cole • New Member “Welcome” Event scheduled in Sept • 3 Members attending RLC

Section Highlights • Twin Cities • 30 June Lunch Event and Tour of MN Air Guard Museum • 19 July Distinguished Lecturer & Dinner Event with Greg Meholic: Advanced Space Propulsion Concepts for Interstellar Travel • Upcoming Events • Section Table and Support of the AIAA GNC/M&S/Atmospheric Conference in Minneapolis • Section Table and Support of the AIAA GNC/M&S/Atmospheric Conference in Minneapolis • Wichita • Nominating Committee developing a slate of officers; Davy Levy will remain as Chair for one additional year • First Council Meeting planned for Mid August; will work on Fall Programs • Concern about lose of membership due to Boeing leaving the Wichita area • Will not be able to attend RLC

Thoughts for RSAC • TAC is changing....what does RSAC need to do to Change??? • “Suppose” to align Goals to Strategic Plan • But what are RSAC’s, not just VP Member Services Goals and Expectations??? • We have been essentially doing the same thing for the past 20 years • Similar Reports from the Regional Directors and Standing Committee • We need to change too if RSAC is going to survive!!! • So....what do we need to do to move forward???

Student & Educator Member Observations • Region V Student membership has started to flatten • Educator membership continuing Upward Trend over past year • Significant variation in number of student members over the year • Past Year trends: Students Educators • Iowa - 16 + 5 • Rocky Mountain + 17 + 51 • St. Louis - 17 + 7 • Twin Cities + 7 + 2 • Wichita - 15 + 4 • Student Long term trends: • Regional membership tending to oscillate for the past few year; overall, tending to remain constant. • Rocky Mtn show consistent increase since 2009 • Other Section flat or slight decrease • Educator Long term trends: • Increasing since renewals no longer required • However, Rocky Mtn has shown first decrease this June 2012 (161 Educators in May, 149 Educators in June 2012)
