  1. New Technology Provision - BSF

Network • 10 Gigabit CISCO network backbone, with 1 Gigabit connection at the desktop • 80 MeruWifi access points covering main building and Sports Hall – capacity to run HD video on 33 devices concurrently. • Security – passive monitoring using “Policy Central”, and active monitoring with “Impero”

  3. Wifi Coverage • Wifi permeates 10-15m around building, and one additional directional external wifi access point covering assembly point Assembly Point

  4. The classroom • Interactive Projector on gloss-wall • Apple TV (or equivalent) to stream media content directly from network, or to project wirelessly to teacher/student devices • Either: • “Fat Client” laptop + docking station. • Transformer-style tablet • iPad 3 • Windows Surface

  5. Staff Device - Asus Transformer? • 10” tablet with detachable keyboard • Fantastic battery life • Tablet portability with the reassurance and familiarity of a keyboard when necessary

  6. Staff Device – iPad 3? • Instant familiarity with iPhone users • Airplay + Apple TV • Northgate already experienced with managing these devices

  7. Staff Device - Windows Surface? • Tablet portability with local versions of MS Office Apps • Metro desktop would sync across devices & Windows 8 PCs • Soft Keyboard/cover

  8. Staff Device - “Fat client” laptop? • Full laptop functionality within school and at home • Clicks easily into docking station, which then connects it to power, projector, network

  9. Interactive Projector • Projects directly onto glossed wall • Use normal whiteboard pens or interactive pen • (Maths may stick with Promethean IWB) • Some rooms to have 2 projectors.

  14. ICT Labs • 2 x iMac labs • 2 x thin client VDI Desktops

  15. Learning Hubs • 60 Legacy laptops running as thin client • Quick to boot – in a matter of seconds • Standard setup across the college • 30 Apple iPad Minis (or similar device)

  16. Things to still to think about • Cloud-based Storage and Apps • Who owns the data/storage space? Mirrored? • Need to think about security of devices such as ipads. • Can these be alarmed – how much? • Moving our existing data over to new servers. • Do we still need it all? • Progresso vsSIMS • Monitoring Software for Devices - Will Imperowork? • Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) • Trials starting 2013, implementation 2014.
