  3. Geography • Lake Mead is one of the largest lakes in the world • Nevada’s sports climate suck as out door activities swimming, boating, and fishing • Nevada is the 7th largest state • Nevada’s elevations run from 146 miles along the Colorado River

These areas in Nevada are the national park service Las Vegas and Reno the former city accounting for two thirds of the states gambling Nevada’s a variety of scenic attractions including beautiful Lake Tahoe Boulder Canyon The principal attractions are the casinos, luxury hotels, and night clubs of Las Vegas, and Reno Mining towns, ghost towns and the recreational facilities of Lake Mead are popular Tourism

Nevada’s territory was created in 1861 Abraham Lincoln needed Nevada’s support in congress Nevada became the 36th state in 1864 The present boundaries were fixed in 1866 New comers tried to drive the Indians out by force During the mining boom, which ended in 1881, gold and silver was worth estimated $300 million Beginning in the 1940s the small town of Las Vegas in southern Nevada. History

The Hover Dam was built in the Colorado River through southern Nevada The Hover Dam was finished in 1936 controlled by this trickle river that created Lake Mead At it’s birth Lake Mead was the largest human made lake in the world Swimming and boating are fun filled activities in the lake Today its 550 miles of shore line make Lake Mead a popular program Fishers pull in striped bass that weigh up to 20 pounds Lake Mead
