  4. Forms of Prayer Prayer of Petition The vocabulary of supplication in the New Testament is rich in shades of meaning: ask, beseech, pled, invoke, entreat, cry out, even struggle in prayer. CCC 2629.

  5. Prayer of Petition • What do we ask for? • Forgiveness • The Kingdom • Every need

  6. Forms of Prayer Prayer of Intercession • Intercession is a prayer of petition which leads us to pray as Jesus did. CCC 2634. • Intercede: asking on behalf of another. CCC 2635.

  7. Prayer of Intercession • In intercession, he who prays looks “not only to his won interests, but also to the interests of others,” even to the point of praying for those who do him harm. CCC 2635

  8. Forms of Prayer Prayer of Thanksgiving As in the prayer of petition, every event and need can become an offering of thanksgiving. CCC 2638.

  9. Forms of Prayer Prayer of Praise • Praise is the form of prayer which recognizes most immediately that God is God. • It lauds God for his own sake and gives him glory, quite beyond what he does, but simply because HE IS. CCC 2639
