  2. Main Activities A. GARDEN MAINTAINENCE & IMPROVEMENTS Members grow organic food to share. They build up garden beds, carry out planting, watering, mulching, weeding and pruning. They grow seedlings at home and harvest new seeds so that the garden is more self-reliant. B. OUTREACH Garden beds and garden equipment can be used by community groups. The garden is open to local school students and local community groups to visit and use. At the Garden • There is always something to do and someone to chat to. • The garden includes: • a garden shed for storage of tools, seeds etc., a small potting shed, an outdoor shaded area • fruit and nut trees, perennial plants - eg. vines, rhubarb, strawberries, asparagus • above ground garden beds for growing winter and summer crops • a herb bed and native bed • numerous flowering shrubs • 3 bin compost and wormery • 3 bin storage area • an automatic drip watering system and rainwater tanks. • A map of the garden and past garden activities is available on request. SHARING - LEARN BY DOING ORGANIC GARDENING A Potted History Aldinga Community Garden was established by keen gardeners in late 1990. The garden was moved to its present site, next to Aldinga Community Centre, in early 2001. It is now a sub-group of Aldinga Community Centre. Goals of Aldinga Community Garden • Aldinga Community Garden aims to reflect good community organic gardening principles. • The garden is OPEN to all members of the community. • We use organic methods eg. layering, mulching, crop rotation, companion planting, seed saving • We grow food to share amongst community members and sponsors • We enjoy open days, gardening workshops, guest speakers, demos, networking and helping others • We share the work, knowledge and skills in making a garden grow • We are supported by Onkaparinga Council and Aldinga Community Centre staff. • COME & JOIN US on Wednesdays and/or Sundays DISCOVER & HAVE FUN BY DOING
