  1. Scratchboard Art Another Project Involving Sharp Pointy Things

  2. What is it? • A white or reflective board is covered in black acrylic paint or black gesso • The artist then scratches away the black (using an exacto knife) to reveal an image • Like Printmaking • Creates really beautiful lifelike textures

  3. What is the Project? • Select an animal • Create a black and white image on the scratchboard provided to you • Show the animals texture • Must show Value • Highlight, Halftone, Core, Shadow, reflected light

  4. A COMMON MISTAKE • Don’t draw everything with a white outline, like on a chalkboard. • People do this... • when what they really want is this... • Black lines are created by scratching on either side of them.

  5. Pencil drawing • Scratchboard, using same technique as pencil and paper. This ends up looking like a negative which is incorrect. • You must scratch away areas of LIGHT and leave DARK areas!
