  1. Sango Elementary Monday, January 30, 2012 Reading – Our story this week is “Mahalia Jackson.” The reading skill is main idea and details. The vocabulary words are: slavery, teenager, barber, religious, choir, appreciate, released. Test Friday. Language Arts- We will continue our study of pronouns. This week we will focus on reflexive pronouns. Science- Students planned to land a Lunar Module on the moon. They will create and test it on Monday. Ask them about using the Engineer Design Process with Earth Science. Math Students have been adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. We will quiz this standard on Tuesday. Then students will add and subtract mixed numbers. Math Superstars Lesson XII is today and lesson XIII is due on Friday. Social Studies – We will continue our study of chapter 7(Times of Plenty, Times of Hardship). This chapter discusses the U.S. as an Industrial Nation, the Roaring Twenties, The Great Depression and The New Deal. Test of chapter 7 will be Thursday, February 2. Students will complete a study guide in class and will bring it home to study Wednesday night. • JUST A REMINDER… • January 13th- Kickoff for “City Saver Coupon Books” Fundraiser. Last collection will be on Friday 2-3. • February 1st- 5th Grade Writing TCAP assessment. • February 2nd- Kickoff for “Read Across America.” • Friday, February 3rd is a half day. Students will eat 30 minutes earlier and dismissal will begin at approximately 1:10. • February 14th- Math Fun Day and Valentine Parties. More information to follow. • Mrs. Lunceford has asked that all students bring their recorders to music this week! • Wish List! Mrs. Harper is in need of antibacterial wipes, band aids, and toothpicks. Any donations are greatly appreciated. • NEW THIS YEAR! In place of our traditional science fair, Sango in conjunction with CMCSS and Austin Peay, will hold our first STEM challenge. More details to follow.
