  2. Background • B.A. – Spanish: Language & Literature • M.A. – Education: Curriculum & Instruction • Multiple Subject Credential: K-8 • Single Subject Credential: Spanish 1-4

  3. High School Level Class • RUHS curriculum • Fulfills the foreign language requirement • Grade from this class does not count in high school GPA/credits • Grade from this class determines level placement at the high school (9th grade)

  4. Materials • Spiral Notebook/Composition book • Pens/Pencils/Erasers/Highlighters • Chromebooks (fully charged) • Spanish 1 textbook (keep a copy at home) • Novels • Semester 1: Pobre Ana (Mexico) • Semester 2: Piratas (Caribbean near Cuba)

  5. Participation • 25 points per week (check Power School) • Must participate in order to get full points • Includes raising hand individually and small group work • Being on task (talking in Spanish) • Completing class work • Bringing materials • Having Chromebooks charged

  6. Homework • 10 points • Google Classroom assignments • Worksheets (Did you get it?) • NO LATE HOMEWORK ACCEPTED (unless absence is excused) • STUDY AND MEMORIZE 7 DAYS A WEEK • Absent students must check their RBUSD e-mail for make-up work

  7. Projects • Completed at home (3-4 weeks) • If absent, a parent must drop it off on the due date or it’s considered late • Projects will be accepted late, but with a penalty (no higher than a C, but better than a zero) • 2 cultural projects: • Winter: Mexico • Spring: Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico

  8. Tests/Quizzes • Must maintain an A/B average on all assessments • This class is all about memorizing and practicing outside of class! • 3 quizzes and 1 test per Unit Lesson (per month) • 4 verbal tests • 2 novel tests • 2 final exams • 1 essay test (in May)

  9. Typical month: • Unidad 1 Lección 1 (Unit 1 Lesson 1) • Week 1: Vocabulary Quiz • Week 2: Grammar Quiz #1 • Week 3: Grammar Quiz #2 • Week 4: Test
