  5. 1. Personality • What do you define as personality? Give me some examples.... • Personality... 1. The combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character. (Oxford dictionary)

  6. We are now going to look at Introvert and Extrovert personalities Does anyone know what Introvert and Extrovert personalities are???

  8. Quiet Dislike social situations feel humiliated if they make a mistake Introvert Traits like there own space and own company Do not share feelings easily Good Concentration Become irritated if surrounded by people for long periods of time

  13. 2. Motivation What do you define as motivation? Give me some examples.... Motivation.....is the external stimulus and internal mechanisms which arouse and direct our behaviour " A Drive To Fulfil A Need" (Gill 1986)

  14. We are now going to look at Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation Does anyone know what Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation is???

  15. Task With a partner write down as many Sports men/women who are intrinsically and extrinsically motivated

  16. Achievement motivation Sports performers need a balance between intrinsic & extrinsic motivation. Too many extrinsic rewards (money, trophies, etc) can reduce a performer’s own intrinsic motivation (drive, passion ,etc)

  18. NACH? Need To Achieve Strive to be the best Will not stop until they have achieved what they want. Take the challenging route in what they do. Complete tasks/goals properly Seek independence Find it rewarding to be challenged

  19. Need To Achieve Sporting Example • Strived to become the best player in the world. • Trained alone after team training to improve his own ability. • Was motivated to improve his football ability. • Achieved his goal of becoming the worlds best player in 2008. Cristiano Ronaldo NACH

Need To Avoid Failure Sporting Example. • Happy to sit on the Bench at Chelsea FC and now Tottenham Hotspurs FC • Always knows he will be the second choice Goalkeeper but is happy with that. • Has a laid back approach • Is happy to take the easy route • Knows he isn’t the best in Goal Carlo Cudicini NAF

  23. 3. Concentration What do you define as concentration? Give me some examples.... Concentration...is the ability of a sports performer to process information and maintain focus To process information, a sports performer has to make sense of the information they are presented with and decide on the course of action to take. If the performer becomes overloaded with information it can negatively affect their performance
