STANCE GOALS • Develop and implement district-level mentoring and induction programs using National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) • Coordinate and provide a support system for teachers/school counselors seeking National Board Certification (NBC) • Process FY07 Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) payments for the Illinois Teaching Excellence Program (ITEP)

  3. OUTCOMES FOR GOAL 1 • Identify NBCTs by Regional Area • Invite NBCTs to Participate in Advanced Training • Use Rubric to Select NBCTs • Regional Offices of Education/Intermediate Service Centers Provide Trainings 2006-2007 • Regional Sites Facilitate Induction/ Mentoring Programs

  4. WHAT IS ADVANCED TRAINING?* • 6-Day Induction/Mentoring of New Teachers • Standards Aligned Classroom Overview • Framework for Understanding Poverty (Ruby Payne) • Focused Walks *(Available for NBCTs interested in mentoring new teachers).

  5. 2 OUTCOMES FOR GOAL • Facilitate Ongoing Recruitment Activities • Schedule Pre-candidacy Sessions • Provide Candidate Mentor Training - Parts 1 and 2 • Form Candidate Cohort Groups • Maintain Database of Candidates and NBCTs • Provide All Required Forms Online

  12. Helping ALL Teachers Shine Eight Steps to Candidacy 1. Determine your eligibility • Hold a bachelors degree • Hold a valid state teaching/school counseling license • Have completed three full years of teaching/school counseling experience • Currently have a classroom assignment • Administrators, staff development specialists, or other potential candidates not assigned to the classroom can “borrow” a classroom to complete their portfolio.

Familiarize yourself with your state and local application requirements. Go to www.ILNBPTS.org 6. Identify financial resources. 7. Complete the Illinois National Board Candidate Fee Subsidy Application ISBE 77-32 8. Complete the NBPTS online application

National Board Assessment Process Helping ALL Teachers Shine • Portfolio (Four entries) • Three classroom-based entries • Two videotapes documenting the candidate’s teaching practice • Student work samples • One entry combining family and community outreach, professional leadership/collaboration, and professional learning activities. • Assessment Center (Tutorial Available Online) • Six 30-minute online exercises • Prompted questions • Focus on content-area knowledge • See NBPTS website for locations and times

Helping ALL Teachers Shine 2006 Candidate Fee Subsidy Time Line Wednesday NBC Fee Subsidy Application Online September 13 (www.ILNBPTS.org) Friday Applications Accepted September 15 Mail to I-KAN Regional Office, 189 E. Court St., Suite 600, Kankakee, IL 60901 Monday Applications Must Be Received at the I-KAN October 16 Regional Office by the Close of the Business Day (4:30 p.m.). May Be Hand Delivered. Friday Review Panel to Meet and Determine Fee October 20 Recipients for 2006 Week of Online Notification of Candidates to be Funded October 23 Friday $65.00 non-refundable application processing charge must be paid November 17 End of December $500.00 non-refundable registration fee must be paid
