  2. What is Challenge 20/20? The NAIS Challenge 20/20 programme is an Internet-based international education programme that partners schools from the United States with schools from other countries to work together on one of the 20 global problems. 

  3. Who are our partner schools? RivermontCollegiate (IA, USA) and Joan MacQueen Middle School (CA, USA)

  4. What is terrorism? Terrorism is when individuals use fear and intimidation to gain power, assets or to change the way other people live their lives. This can be at a range of levels : • Local • national • global

  5. Where is terrorism taking place in our world?

  7. International Peacekeeping Peace Building – resolving of physical conflict Peace Making – attempting to prevent further conflict

  8. Where are Peacekeepers Currently Deployed? • Africa • Asia • America • Europe • Middle East

  9. Ways to support Peacekeepers and create peace • World-Wide education of children • Acceptance of other cultures and religions • Peace within our communities

Where is Conflict in our world? • At home when you and you brother are fighting, but compromise. • At school when students have differing opinions and the teacher becomes a peacekeeper. • On an international level, for example the Germany versus England and United States in World War II, when Germany was defeated by a stronger power.

  11. Defining conflict resolution Conflict Resolution is the method and processes involved in resolving conflict. Resolution means to solve something by either force, compromise or withdrawal. Most of the conflicts are due to issues over land, resources or difference.

  12. How can we support conflict resolution? • Financially supporting UN peacekeeping efforts. • By sharing the load and taking responsibility for your own actions and relationships. • Increasing the numbers of adults who are educated. Education is central to changing lives and behaviours.

  13. Finding a solution • Building individual power to reflect, make choices and create a better way of life. • Supporting education for all. • Fundraising for groups that promote peace locally and internationally.
