  1. Disciple “One who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrine of another; a convinced adherent of another; a student of another.” - Webster

  2. Jesus hand-picked 12 specific “disciples.” Jesus also wants all men to be His “disciples.” We need to know the importance & costs of being a “disciple.”

  3. A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. It is enough for the disciple that he become as his teacher, and the slave as his master. Mt 10:24-25

  4. If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Lk 14:26

  5. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. Lk 14:27

  6. So therefore, no one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions. Lk 14:33

  7. One may claim he is interested in becoming a “disciple” of Jesus. Jesus tells such a one what awaits him & what is expected of him if he becomes a “disciple.”

  8. And as they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” And Jesus said to him,…

  9. “The foxes have holes,…

  10. “…and the birds of the air have nests,…

  11. “…but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Lk 9:57-58

  12. And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Permit me first to go and bury my father.” But Jesus said to him,…

  13. “…“Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.” Lk 9:59-60

  14. And another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first…

  15. …permit me to say good-bye to those at home.”

  16. But Jesus said to him…,

  17. “…No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Lk 9:61-62

  18. Disciples who make up the church of the Lord at Eastside have gathered to worship God this morning. Are you a disciple of Jesus? Do you want to be one?
