  2. The course goals and objectives GOAL • Assure ability of students to freely communicate in English and Russian on key issues of oil and gas industry OBJECTIVES • Introduction to oil and gas industry • Mastering of English-Russian oil and gas terminology

  3. The course duration • The course duration comprises 65 academic hours including final test. • Classes are held twice a week for 4 academic hours. • Total duration of the course by calendar time comprises 2 months. • Completion of training groups comprises 8-9 persons.

  4. The course specifics • Combination of introduction into oil and gas industry withtraining in oil and gas terminology. • Mastering of new English terms during presentation of new material in Russian on the basis of comprehensive illustrative material. • Systematic and adapted presentation of material including complete cycle from field exploration toproduction of oil products. • High interactivity of exercises in combination withspecially developed audio course.

History of the course development • 1999 - Conducting of the course in Arkhangelsk in FLT company for the first time in Russia. • 2000 - Publication of training manual for translators“Oil industry” (Arkhangelsk). • 2004 – Publication of training manual “Oil and gas industry” (Moscow). • 2006 – Second publication of training manual “Oil and gas industry” (Moscow). • 2008 – Development of the course in existing form and publication of training manual with audio course (Moscow).

  6. Training manuals and equipment Students are provided with training manual and audio course on CD. Audio exercises are conducted on personal computers. Visualization of material is provided by means ofpresentation using projector. Most topics include training videos.

  7. Target audience • Persons with linguistic education knowing English at medium and advanced level and wishing to work in oil and gas industry (translators, English teachers, students of linguistic institutes). • Specialists of oil and gas companies wishing to improve their qualification and level of professional English (non-technical employees). The course was conducted for translators of companies ENI, Schlumberger, ExxonMobil, Rosneft, Tengizchevroil.

  26. FINAL TEST Depending upon preparedness of the team final knowledge testing may include the following stages: • Written answers to 60 questions with following self-checking by audio course. • Implementation of final test including 90 questions. • Interview by the trainer on one of the course topics on the basis ofexamination cards.
