  1. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources Mike has started quite early to think about the first 3rd generation light source : in 1978-1979. Many “coloured” books have been necessary before launching the construction of the ESRF. This blue book was followed by a green book and finally by the red book (CDR).

  2. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources This was a good occasion to spend some good time in the Alpes (Aussois, May 1979) At that time there were many discussions about the energy of the Machine 3.5 GeV / 5 GeV ? It was also considered very innovative and challenging to think about a lattice for an “All wiggler Machine” ! (M. Sommer)

  3. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources PAC 1983 : Contribution on transverse instabilities, damped with octupoles on SRS

  4. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources PAC 1985 : Contribution about the first undulator installed on SRS

  5. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources EPAC 1988 : Contribution about instabilities on SRS

  6. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources PAC 1989 : Contribution about compensation of a high field wiggler on SRS

  36. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources Vice Chairman of the SOLEIL MAC (2001-2007)

  37. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources • Mike’s contributions to 3rd GLS was significant and varied : • Insertions devices and their effects • Lattice and non linearities • Instabilities • Coupling, lifetime,.. • Shielding • Overall performances (Flux, brightness,..) • Mike’s contributions to 3rd GLS was significant and in many spheres : • Conference and worshops • Very active in the EPAC conference organisation since 1994 • Member of EPS-AG from 1996 till 2000

  38. Mike’s contributions to 3rd generation Light Sources Mike’s contributions to 3rd GLS was significant and lively : • sometimes provocative • sometimes advocating controversial statements to stimulate exchange or….. just for the sake of it ? • but always very polite and friendly ! For all these reasons, we thank you Mike !
