Classification • Kingdom: Animalia (heterotrophic, Multicellular) • Phylum: Chordata (backbone) • Class: Cephalaspidomorphi (jawless) • Order: Petromyzontiformes (lamprey) • Family: Petromyzontidae (northern lampreys) • Genus: (There are multiple genus) one example: Caspiomyzon • Species (of the Caspiomyzon): Caspiomyzon wagneri (Caspian Lamprey)

  3. Movement • Swims like normal fish • Attaches to other fish • Not strong swimmers • Fins

  4. Nervous system • Sensory awareness • Possibly pheromones • Have a brain

  5. Feeding • Sucks blood & other fluids • Eats algae, detritus & small organisms • Parasitic • Secretions prevent blood clotting • Humans eat lampreys

  6. Circulation/Respiration • Two chamber heart • Closed circulation • Gills • Oxygen through mouth from water

  7. Reproduction • Deposits sperm & eggs into water • Adults die after • Male has two fins female one fin • 2 weeks to hatch • 20 eggs at a time
