  3. What do we do?? Traffic signals and systems design, construction and O&M Development, Rezoning, Land Use Amendments, & Use Permits Short & Long range planning of key countywide roads & Level-of-Service of roads Engineering studies to justify signs & markings

  4. Traffic Engineering Division Provides for the safe and efficient movement of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout the County. • 533 traffic signals and flashers • Traffic Management • 24 coordinated traffic signal systems • 21 local & 100 traffic monitoring cameras • Reduced Speed School Zone signals Consolidated Services Countywide; except Daytona Beach

Input & Make Your Mark Workshop • 2007 County Needs Plan & Economic Development • myRegion.org & East Central Florida RPC effort • 2050 FDOT Max # of Lanes analysis • SE Volusia Regional Transportation Study • SW Volusia Regional Transportation Study • Volusia County 5-Year Road Program: City Mtgs, Zone Mtgs, Council Workshop, Annual County Budget • Annual County CIE Report to DEO

Challenges: Transportation Needs - Congestion 2050 Roadway Deficiencies • Future Conditions • The transportation network and the traffic volumes are based on 2050 Central Florida Regional Planning Model (CFRPM) • The population and employment data is based on the CFRPM • Model generated V/C ratios are used to determine network deficiencies

Traffic Engineering Division • Current Issues • Update to 20 Year MPO Long Range Transportation Plan & new Federal MAP-21 Transportation Bill • 6 of 7 Council members on MPO Board • Comprehensive Plan Amendments (additions/deletions to County Thoroughfare System) • Growth Management Legislation vs Economic Development • Cost Saving & Greenhouse Gas Reduction Programs: • Signal power – County LED’s replacement complete City LED replacement underway • Next Step in traffic technology - Adaptive Signal Control • Signal Retiming (system & isolated) • Sunrail – VOTRANs customer delivery to station on-time • Variable work load in cities 135 watts vs 10 watts
