FOUR WHEELER SAFETY • 1984 ATV’S became a major factor as relational and utility vehicle. • During that year ATV where becoming public concerns and a huge controversial vehicle. • 1986 was an estimated 60,000 injuries. • All related due to improper riding behavior. • Excessively dangerous thrill riding.

  3. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) • In 1988 the CPSC entered into an unprecedented 10 years agreement with American ATV manufactures called the Final Consent Decree. The agreement funded $100 million to expand existing safety programs like free training incentives fro ATV owners.

  4. Injuries: • Injuries and deaths still occur regularly, in 2004 alone; statistics released by CPSC estimated 136,00 injures associate with ATV’s.

  5. ATV LAWS • There have also been laws related to the nature of the machines: • Relationship of machine size to the rider’s age. • Riders under the age of 16 are strictly prohibited from riding ATV’s with 90 cc engines. • Various states have also enacted legislations governing ATV usage within their boundaries.

  6. ATV LAWS CONTINUED: • 2003 there were an estimated 740 deaths associated with ATV’S. • Including 140 reported deaths that included children. • 2004 an estimated 136, 000 ATV related injuries were treated in hospital.
