My Journey with Alpha Software • 1991 – First Application - Alpha4 (Version 2 or 3?) • 1993 – MS Access application development • 1997 – Mobile Intensive Care Unit – Analyst –Designed full Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in MS Access for Paramedic Unit • 2001 – Hospital Analyst & System design (mainly SQL and Departmental MS Access applications) • 2006 – Started my company – Healthcare Education – www.CardiacEd.com • 2010 – Rediscovered Alpha (AWESOME!)

My Company: “What we do” Over 100 different healthcare education programs: • Seminars (nursing & non-nursing) • Custom clinical presentations • American Heart Association Courses • Basic Resuscitation (i.e. CPR / First Aid) • Advanced Resuscitation (Adult & Pediatric certifications) • EKG & Emergency Pharmacology • Pet First Aid and CPR • Intravenous (IV) Therapy Certification • Computer training for healthcare professionals • And many other programs

How do clients take our programs? • Clients attend our public courses – at our office • We go to a clients location (i.e. Surgical Center, Nurse Practitioner’s office, Doctor’s office, Home, Office, School/University, Hospital, Clinic, etc. • Primary territory NJ, NY, PA, and DE • Some national clients (AZ & CA) • Few International clients (Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, UK)

Processing of Certifications • Students MUST : • Register (and pay) • Fully attend the program • Take appropriate Skills Test & Written Examination • Have their skills/written exam updated by one of our 80 instructors (now on web) • Complete a program evaluation • Once complete–Our office issues certification

  9. How Alpha Software helps • Rapid application development • State-of-the-art technology • Excellent customer service • Amazing help from Alpha developers (i.e. forum) • (and now mobile and disconnected technology)

  10. During our website development we ran into a problem!

  11. PC/Windows Hell! • PC box was becoming too unstable: • Crashing • Unresponsive programs • Slow to load programs • Blue screen of death • Unexpected behaviors • Loss of productivity • And more…

  12. Solution – Convert to Mac • Learning a New OS • Learning Curve + Time = not efficient • Obtaining same programs for Mac • Office (Outlook, Access, Excel, etc) • Alpha 5 • Not all programs are designed for Mac OS (i.e. Alpha)

  13. Dilemma – Mac • User friendly • Stable OS • Intuitive (but how can Alpha run on a Mac?)

  14. Answer: Virtual Operating System • VMware • Parallels

  15. Running Alpha Anywhere on a Mac How? • Install VMWare or parallels • Install Windows in the virtual OS • Install Alpha • Runs great • No issues
