College Tech Prep • 4 + 2 plan = minimum of 2-year degree in a technical area (or 2-yr DOL-approved apprenticeship) • Meet HS curriculum requirements. • Career pathway in HS connects to a CC technical program of study. • Minimum of 4 technical units of credit in HS, with at least 1 at Level II.

Goals of the Institute: • Increase awareness of facts, assumptions, and myths. • Increase participants’ knowledge about the connections between education and the economy. • Know what employers seek in their employees. • Begin dialogue on how students can “win” in education and careers. • Enable educators to grow in ability to connect what they do to what students will face in the career world. • Develop a cadre of teachers committed to the importance of College Tech Prep as a viable choice for many high school students.

CONCLUSIONS: • Might need to consider “tiers” of PS advancement • Must educate parents, educators, the community, the political machine about the reality of careers • Must BREAK the PARADIGM – Only 1 way to win • Must focus on how to meet the needs of the 80% • Should encourage students to match a major to the market ! • Prepare students to succeed in PS training and careers - & return to this community to “grow it.” • 100 . . . 70 . . . 49 . . . 26 . . . 21 COLLEGE TECH PREP ?
