NHMFL HIGH B/T FACILITY University of Florida • Scientific Mission Dedicated to high-B experiments requiring T< 20 mK Experiments generally require ultra-quiet environment • Three stations for users • Bay 3: B=15/16.5T, Tmin ~ 0.4 mK, • homogeneity 1.6x10-5/cm, • 8 nW cooling power, t > 6 wks @ 1 mK • Bay 2: B=8T, Tmin ~ 0.04 mK, homog. ~ 10-4 /cm • Annex: 10 T/10 mK --fast turnaround, test samples & cell design • Capabilities • NMR/NQR to 1100MHz, ultrasound, transport, heat capacity • magnetic susceptibility, resistivity, dielectric susceptibility • Users work with staff for optimum design and automated data acq.

Extend parameter space for • (QPT, magnetization etc.) • ….. would be unique • (b) High Sensitivity Magnetometry • …… nano-engineered devices • (heavy fermions, half-metals, frustrated magnets…) • II. Upgrade Bay 2 (advance to full-time user use) • Add 16 T Magnet from Bay 3 (after commissioning 20 T – bay 3) • re-engineer dewar dil. fridge geometry) • III. Open Bay 1 to NHMFL use (2012-14)
