  4. In MauritiusEthnicity, Religion & Language are important factors in shaping the way Mauritian relate to each other.

  5. Preliminary literature Review reveals that such a phenomenon is recurrent in most of the Indian Diaspora. It is against this background that this study is taken up.

  6. Rationale of the Study This study is important: • To understand how the various parameters of identity are changing. • To understand how dance acts as an identity marker and how it is adapting & changing itself in a digital world.

  7. 3. To contribute in the corpus of research in understanding Indian Diasporic behaviour and in understanding the evolution of classical dance in Indian Diaspora.

  8. Research Questions What is the relevance of Indian Classical dance forms in Indian Diasporic countries? How Indian classical dances evolve in Mauritius from the time of migration? What are the prospects of Indian Classical Dance in Mauritius in the future?

Objectives of the study: The objectives of the study are: • To study the patterns of movement of various dance forms from the mainland to the Indian Diasporic countries. • To study the prevalence of Indian classical dance in Indian Diasporic countries. • To examine the evolution of the Indian classical dance forms ever since migration of Indians to Mauritius.

  10. To evaluate the various roles of the Indian classical dance in Mauritius. To find out the adaptation and development of the Indian classical dance forms in Mauritius. To study the prospects of the Indian classical dance in Mauritius.
