  2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE • To discuss the principles involved as regard standard sizes and spaces on architectural features and satisfy the requirements as provided for by the National Building Code.

  3. Ergonomics – refers to the study of human • spaces and movement needs. • Since all residential structures are built for • human use, they must be ergonomically • designed to match the size, shape, reach • and mobility of all the occupants. ERGONOMIC PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS

ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS • Rooms • National Building Code on sizes and dimensions of rooms provides that: • Room for human habitations shall be 6 sq. meters with a minimum horizontal dimension of 2 meters. • Kitchen shall be 3 sq. meters with a minimum horizontal dimension of 1.50 meters. • Toilet and Bath shall be 1.20 sq. meters with a minimum horizontal dimension of .90 meter.

  8. ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS • The same code on ceiling • heights (figure 12) provides • that : • Habitable rooms with natural • ventilation shall have a ceiling • height not less than 2.70 meters • and with 14 cu. meters of • air space per room.

ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS • Habitable rooms with artificial • ventilation shall have ceiling • heights not less than 2.40 meters • measured from the floor. • For buildings more than one-storey • high, minimum ceiling height • of the first floor shall be 2.70 meters • and 2.40 meters for the • second floor.

  10. ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS • Setback – refers to the zoning restriction of the location of the house on a lot or its distance from the street.

  11. ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS • Mezzanine floor shall have a • clear ceiling height not less • than 1.80 meters above and • below it.
