  11. Inspired Writer Mary Mayfield and the Wilfrey of the Well. Mary Mayfield rang the hand bell for the start of afternoon school. She watched her classmates stop their games of football, ‘tiggy off ground’ and ‘hot rice’ and straggle to the foot of the wooden steps that led to the classroom door. Mary rarely joined in the games that her many of her friends delighted in, preferring to stay inside or sitting on a bench outside with like minded friends.

  12. Class Three formed a reasonably straight line and waited expectantly for their teacher, Mrs Hazel, to invite them in to the ‘temporary’ classroom which had served the school for the last thirty years. The children were looking forward to an afternoon of Art followed by Music. They had been working on ‘autumn’ paintings since returning to Ravenhall School two days earlier and were keen to get their pictures finished and then, they all secretly hoped, displayed on the classroom wall! Mary was especially content as Art and Music were her favourite subjects.

  13. Mrs Hazel organised the distribution of paintbrushes, water, powder paints and partially completed paintings, simultaneously answering questions about ‘starting again’, settling disputes over work without names, and helping find ,unaccountably missing, masterpieces.

  14. The inspiration to do something works in many people. What inspires you?

  15. * * * Lord hear my prayer May your love protect me As I dream what I might create May your light guide me When  I do new things Let me be inspired To make new things So that I may grow Amen * * *
