  1. 330 kVpower loop project“Kurzemes loks” AS “Augstsprieguma tīkls” Jānis Kirkovalds, 1 October 2010

  2. Planned Activity Reconstruction of existing 110 kV transmission networkloop in the Western part of Latvia “Kurzemes loks” with purpose to increase transmission capacity and voltage level to 330 kV. "Kurzemes loks“

  4. Challenging points for Kurzeme loop reconstruction • Low power supply reliability due to bottlenecks in the Kurzeme network; emergency disconnections (internal or neighboring country network related disturbances); • Baltic region power network strong dependency from limited power suppliers and isolation from European power market; • Limited generating capacity development in Latvia (usage of renewable power ) "Kurzemes loks"

  5. “Kurzemesloks” project "Kurzemes loks"

  6. Benefits from project realization • Increased power supply reliability in Kurzeme region; • Removed limitations for power demand development and new powerful consumers connection; • Improvement of Baltic power supply reliability providing Latvia – Estonia and Lithuania – Sweden interconnection efficiency; • Extension of power trade between Baltic Sea region countries. "Kurzemes loks"

  7. Stages of the project implementation • “Riga loop” – 330 kV cable line s/st. “Imanta” – s/st. Riga TPP-1 (commissioning 2012); • Existing 110 kV power line reconstruction, by strengthening it with a 330 kV overhead line in section Grobiņa - Ventspils (2011-2013); • Construction of 330/110 kV substation in Ventspils (next to the existing substation site) (2011-2013); • Existing 110 kV power line reconstruction, by strengthening it with a 330 kV overhead line in section Ventspils – Dundaga – Tume, new 330 kV overhead line construction in section Tume – Riga (2018); Currently an environmental impact assessment procedure for power line section Grobiņa - Ventspils - Dundaga and easement agreements signing with landowners are taking place. "Kurzemes loks"

  8. Finance sources of the project 1st stage • Project “Kurzemes loks” is realized in framework of European Union financial support: • Project environmental impact assessment and power line right-of-way study - 50% ("2009 Annual Work Programme for Grants in the field of trans – European energy networks") • Project Stage Grobiņa - Ventspils construction - 50% (“European Programme for Energy Recovery”) "Kurzemes loks"
