  2. Highlight of Current Activities (1) • ITU-T NGN status • Formal announcement to close NGN-GSI and JCA-NGN at June 2012 • Most of required functions are well identified and developed • Most of Recs. are well covered NGN services and functions • Enhancement of NGN is remaining work item

Highlight of Current Activities (2) • ITU-T FN status • Initiated from 2008 by FG-FN and identified Vision and Design Goals: 6 Questions are currently involved • Subjects under the FN: • Networking Technology: DSN (Distribute Service Networking), Network Virtualization and SDN (Software-defined Networking) • Early realization: SUN (Smart Ubiquitous Networks) • Others: Awareness, Programmable, Autonomous, User centric, PTDN, etc. • Recommendations and Planned

Highlight of Current Activities (3) • Status of Korea (TTA) • BcN (Broadband Convergence Networks) was a Korean brand of NGN: Finished at 2010 • NGN Project Group (PG 204) responsible for the national standards developments • Initiated FN developments: • 2011 initiated by the name of Future Networks • 2012 changed title by Smart Internet (Smart Network + Services) • Future Network Project Group (PG 220) responsible for the national standards developments • No more use of BcN

Strategic Direction (1) • Considering GSC is a collaboration platform to develop standards • Noting NGN is going to completion phase • Indicating Telecommunication/ICT continuously developed and market waiting global guidance asap • Also indicating importance of providing bridge for migration/transition between existing and advance developments • Direct major direction to enhance market awareness about the standard works by encouraging development of new and advanced technology such as FN related technologies • But showing continuous efforts providing migration bridge of NGN and legacy networks asps

Voice Internet Video MM Managed IP Platform xDSL/Optic based Fixed-Mobile Strategic Direction (2) • Following steps of considerations should be taken into account: • Understand basic features of each networks • Identify commons (enhancements) and gaps (bridge) • Identify proper paths and candidate issues Voice Video MM Things Smart Platform (awareness) Managed IP/non-IP (?) Optic based Fixed/BB-Mobile FNs NGN

  7. Challenges • Building a global collaboration platform for developments of FN related standards • Identify key issues for FNs and candidate technologies such as SDN • Identify and development of related standards for migration to FN environments, especially for NGNs

Next Steps / Actions • Agree revised resolution of NGN direct to encourage developments of FNs but including NGN (see attached proposed revised resolution) • Provide status information about the developments of each SDOs on FNs including migration of NGN and legacy networks • Develop Standard Roadmap of FN at the next GSC to identify key issue areas
