Lawhorn Scouting Base • 3 Lakes for fishing, canoeing, swimming, rowing, and sailing. • The BSA’s largest climbing center with 4 towers, an indoor cave, and natural rock face (Dripping Rock). • River outfitter with canoe, tubing, and kayaking trips on the Flint River (camp has 3 miles of riverfront). • Complete COPE course (ropes course) with low and high elements. • 6 permanent shooting ranges for archery, BBs, pellets, rifles, shotguns, and black powder. • 2 Air-conditioned dining halls with full industrial kitchens. • 20 Developed campsites with platform tents or adirondacks, 3 primitive campsites with shelters and water, and 16 Backcountry campsites. • 21-Miles of hiking and biking trails.

  4. General Camp Information • Typical Camp Day Format • 2 Merit Badge class periods in the morning • 2 Merit Badge class periods in the afternoon • Twilight period for waterfront, other activities, or additional Merit Badge work • Evenings generally reserved for Scout open program opportunities and troop time

  5. Camp Fees Additional Costs (Trading Post) Indian Lore: $20 Woodcarving: $6 Basketry & Leatherworking: $27 Photography: $12 Transportation Costs: $55 Note 1: The first 2 leaders are free . An additional free leader is granted for every 25 additional scouts attending. We anticipate 3-4 free leaders based on numbers. Remaining leader fees will be spread across all leaders attending.

  7. Buckskin Program • Tenderfoot Buckskin: For new Scouts to work on Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class requirements. This program is offered as a half-day course. • Second Class Buckskin: For first-year Scouts who have begun some advancement. This is offered as an 80-minute course. • First Class Buckskin: For the most experienced new Scouts, to help complete the requirements for the First Class rank. This is offered as an 80-minute course.

  8. COPE Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (COPE) • COPE is comprised of groups of initiative games, and low and high course activities. • Are you up to this 15-hour course that will test your leadership, your communication skills, your decision making and problem solving, and trust in your fellow Scout? • Can you do all of this while 25 feet up in the trees? • COPE is for Scouts who are 13 years old by start of camp. • Scouts participating in the COPE program will need to bring long pants

  9. Mountain Biking • The mountain biking program focuses on the fundamentals of trail riding. • Participants will ride over mountain trails and explore wilderness areas, including the trail of the world-famous Thunderbolt Classic race. Scouts will learn bike safety, tips, trail preservation, and bike maintenance. • Mountain Biking is for Scouts who are 13 years old at the time of arrival. • Scouts participating in the mountain biking program will need to bring a day pack, water bottle, and durable lightweight shoes. Participants must bring their own bike.

  10. Whitewater Canoeing • Georgia is home to some of the most exciting river adventures in the world. Scouts can experience these adventures in our whitewater canoeing program. Scouts will spend one day on the lake and four days on moving water, trained by our experienced instructors. • Whitewater Canoeing is for Scouts who are 13 years old at the time of arrival. • Participants must be in exceptional physical shape and quick-learners. Tentative Schedule* • MONDAY: Flat water class on Lake Ini-To. • TUESDAY: Moving water class on Flint River. • WEDNESDAY: River trip on Flint River. • THURSDAY: River trip on Chattahoochee River. *Schedule is determined by river levels and competency of participants.

  11. Mountain Man Pioneer Experience • MINIMUM AGE: 14 by date of arrival. • Mountain Man is a program for older Scouts that want a sense of period history and adventure. • Mountain Man is designed as a living history program set in a primitive area of camp. It requires hiking to the program and campsite. It is a living history program that is set in a primitive area of camp. Scouts will leave on Monday and will not return to camp until Thursday afternoon.

  12. Friday Troop Program: Thunder Adventure • Canoe trip on Flint River • Tubing on Flint River • Shooting Sports Round Robin • Guided Backcountry Hike • Climbing & Rappelling • Select COPE events • Geocaching

  13. Medical Forms • Health forms are required for all campers and leaders and MUST be signed by a licensed physician. Anyone who does not have a current and properly signed health and medical record will not be permitted to depart with the troop for camp!

  14. Transportation • Charter Bus rental • One bus will carry between 54 – 56 people + underneath storage for scout gear • Estimated round-trip cost per scout and non-driving adult is $55 • Whether on the bus or riding in an overflow vehicle • Adult leaders driving POVs (with overflow scouts or pulling the troop trailer) will not pay bus fee and consider this their gas reimbursement

  15. Milestones • Jan Meetings: First Deposit of $100 • Feb Meetings: Second Deposit of $50 • Mar Meetings: Begin registration for MBs & programs • Mar-Apr: New Crossovers Arrive • Apr Meetings: Final Deposit of $125 + Transportation
