What is Pacific Lighthouse? • A research collaboration between UW, CENIC, providers of digital collections, and school partners • An on-demand media repository built upon MediaWeb technology, I2 middleware, and the high-performance advanced services networks in California and Washington • An investigation into the pedagogical uses of digital libraries

Goals of Pacific Lighthouse • To evaluate the performance of Internet2 technologies (e.g., MediaWeb), and identify issues associated with use • To determine how teachers and students might use digital collections as primary source materials • To assess the usefulness of multi-media digital collections for pedagogical purposes

  13. Parallel Project • Pacific Lighthouse is a complementary project to Viewing the Future, a video repository aligned with Michigan educational standards that is being created by a partnership between UW and MERIT

  14. Scaling Up • By means of the SEGP structure, the National Internet2 K-20 initiative will leverage both Pacific Lighthouse and Viewing the Future to provide access to a wide variety of on-demand media first to additional states, and then to the national K-20 community
