  2. Brief History • Established in 1961. • Full time care for children, ages 0 through 12. • Licensed by the state of Texas, with 2 facilities within the city, and 60 staff members.

  3. Vision Statement The development of the whole child to be strong, capable, and independent.

  4. Mission Statement • To serve the community by providing a quality and developmentally appropriate child care program. • To create lasting relationships with families centered on their child’s individual needs and growth. • To provide your child with the opportunity to discover the world through learning and gaining good character skills so that they may succeed in life with flying colors.

  5. Services • Maria Montessori theory of teaching • Taught whole language skills through music and story book activities. • Maximum nutritional benefits are provided by hosting homemade meals.

  6. Communication Errors • Minimal training offered to new faculty and staff concerning child abuse. • Lack of consistency in training policies and procedures.

  7. The Law • All childcare providers must receive at least twenty hours of on going training a year. • All teachers and staff must report any suspicion of child abuse. • Health checks must be conducted daily

  12. Recommendation #1 • Teachers/staff members should be given thorough training on what constitutes to be child abuse.

  13. Recommendation #2 • Teachers/staff members should not have to notify management when they are reporting a suspected child abuse case. The law states that the person making the report may remain anonymous.

  14. Recommendation #3 • Flying Colors should adapt NACCRA’s recommendations as this would further increase the standards in place. For example instead of placing staff immediately in the classroom they should at least receive the minimum of 40 hours of training.
