Plagiocephaly Plagiocephalydescribestheflatteningononesideonthechild’shead.Thistypeofflatteningiscommonlyassociatedwithaparallelogramshapedhead,ashiftforwardoftheearandamoreprominentforeheadonthesamesideastheflatteningandpossiblytheeyesappearingtohaveunequal positioning. Brachycephaly Brachycephalydescribesaflatteningacrossthebackofachild’shead.Thistypeofflatteningiscommonlyassociatedwithalossofdefinitionoftheneckline,awideheadshape,prominentbonylumpsabovetheears,abossed/protrudingforeheadandpossiblyanexcessivelyhighheightofhead. Scaphycephaly Scaphycephalyistherarestofthethree.Itdescribesaflatteningonbothsidesofachild’shead,givingtheoverallimpressionofalongnarrowheadshapeandisassociatedwithanoverlyexaggeratedneckline. Theflatteningoccursduetoanexternalforceexertedontothechild’sheadforaprolongedperiodoftime.Duetothesoft,malleable,mobilecharacteristicsachild’sskullhas,theexternalforce,whenleftincontactforalengthoftimecancauseaflatteninginthecorrespondingarea.
