  1. Few Freelancers Experience Success without Knowing the Right People It can hardly be denied that in a very competitive world it is good to know the right people to help you further your cause whether that is some form of activism you may be driving or a job you’re after – or knowing the right people to put you in touch with those that may help you further your cause or career. Let us take, for example, the world of entertainment. Actors, dancers, singers, extras in shows, for example, all need the support of someone to get the best exposure in terms of which they will land that sought-after job everyone is looking for. Of course, if you are very experienced in your industry – whether as a model or an actor or actress that has worked in film or TV, or on stage for that matter – you may find jobs and assignments more easily, but it should be remembered that production companies and directors – and talent scouts – are always on the lookout for new faces, new voices, new talent. Therefore, even the most experienced entertainers make sure that they use their connections, that they remain registered with companies that can find them work. Freelancers such as models and actors find it hard to get the best exposure, to make producers and directors aware of what they have to offer, to remember them. These people compare talents and certain looks; they will, therefore, need to remember you all the time, and the best – even the only – way to do so, is to be reminded of you when they offer new jobs. And, they will most likely remember you, or consider you, when they ask the talent agency to present them with the best candidates. It is simply too difficult to either break into these industries or remain at the top, without being registered with a good, recommended talent manager. Such a firm or service will ensure that you get the exposure you need when new jobs come up. They know what talents and capabilities those entertainers and models that they represent, bring to the table. They will indeed make sure that producers are made aware – and constantly reminded – of who you are, what you offer and how it could be to their benefit to consider you for a meeting or audition. Very often entertainers and models who are by their very nature not always too interested in administrative issues such as payment, for example, benefit greatly from working with a management company that will ensure they are offered jobs, invited to meetings, castings and auditions – and that they receive their pay when scheduled.

  2. These firms are often connected to all the important production companies, film and TV groups, theatre and other similar companies, which means they deal with an extended network to ensure you receive great exposure as a model, actor or other entertainer. These firms exist because they offer a great service: they act as a go-between on behalf of the artist such as the actor or model – and the company that offers the job. This also means that producers know who to rely on for finding them, good candidates. Therefore it is easy to understand that all of these role players very much rely on one another for their success: the actor needs the talent manager as much as he/she needs the company that offers the jobs. And, of course, vice versa: producers work with talent managers to find the right clients to work for them. No matter how often you have done work in your industry in the past, or whether you are just starting out, freelancers normally find it hard to be successful without the support of a good agent that looks after them in terms of finding them the best assignments and exposure.
