  2. Sequence Student Expectations • Students identify the sequence of events in selections with or without clue words. • Students recognize simultaneous events and flashbacks. • Students put events into the correct chronological order.

  3. Sequence • How is the sequence of events important in the text? • Could this story have been written if some of the events had happened in a different sequence? • Based on what has happened, what will most likely happen next?

  4. Sequence • Sequence refers to the order of events in fiction and nonfiction. • Clue words such as first, next, last, and after can help you understand the order of events. Not all selections have clue words. • Some selections include events that are happening simultaneously or out of order. Flashbacks present events out of order.

  5. Sequence • Dates and times can be very helpful in determining the sequence of a story. • Graphic organizers help us order the events in a story.
