  1. Let’s learn sign language! A WebQuest by Gale Bowen to give students a jump start into the basics of ASL and Deaf Culture.

  2. Introduction: Before learning American Sign Language (ASL), you will tackle this exciting WebQuest about ASL and Deaf Culture. • Deafness is seen as a disability by some members of American society. But, to Deaf ASL users, they are seen as an independent minority with their own culture. Their own morals, values, and norms just as any other culture does. • Objective: At the end of the WebQuest, students will be able to: • Describe Deaf people as having a culture of their own • Sign your name • Learn that there is only one difference between Deaf and hearing people • Come up with three further questions of your own Sign

  3. Task: You have just moved to a new neighborhood. Finally, you have been invited to a sleepover party! You are so excited to have the opportunity to make some friends. Everyone there is Deaf! So put your voice away, stretch your fingertips, and pack your overnight bag! Oh. Wait a minute. You do not know ASL? You have never interacted within Deaf culture? Not to fear. This WebQuest will prepare you for a night of fun while making new friends. At the end of this WebQuest you will have the opportunity to write three additional questions that you have about all of the new Deaf friends that you are about to meet. Enjoy
