  1. Leopard Lit Club • Read 10 award-winning books • BookChat about each book with your LA teacher • or Media Specialist • OR BookChat with your friends! Everyone reads the same book and BookChats in the Media Center • 10 BookChats by January = Field Trip this spring! • Spend all day on a University campus, meeting authors and learning about writing at the Lit Festival

Reading criteria • 10 books and BookChats total – • 4 must be CURRENT Mark Twain, Truman, or Gateway nominees • * 6thgraders read only from Mark Twain or Truman • * 8thgraders read only from Truman or Gateway • 1 book may be a Caldecott – only one Caldecott • 1 book may be an award-winning graphic novel – only one • 4 (or more) books that have ever won any nationally-recognized Award – Newbery, Pura Belpre, VOYA, etc. • * check title in Destiny to see if it has any awards

  3. Book-chats • After you read an eligible book, schedule a BookChat • Can BookChat with your LA teacher, Mrs. Alten, or other Reading Specialist • LA teachers will keep track of your completed BookChats on a bookmark stored by your teacher • BookChatscan be one-on-one, OR if a group of students all read the same book, you can BookChat amongst yourselves with Mrs. Alten or your teacher sitting in to give you credit for completing the group BookChat • BookChatscan happen before school, during LA class, lunch, or on a MC pass; and after school by PRIOR arrangement • ** All 10 books need to be read and BookChattedby January 15th! **
