Pleistocene glaciations

Population

isolation in separate glacial refugia is reflected in divergence and intraspecific differentiation

Absence of differenciation induced with periodical species range shifts and population mixing

Sakhalin and Hokkaido Islands population demography

Hokkaido Island

Sakhalin Island

  • several colonizations ?

  • not enough time

  • for the genetic drift ?

«founder effect»

According to SRY data Islands are genetically identical, but cytochrome b analysis shows us great differences. It may be the result of more active dispersion of males compared to females.
