1. WCA Gate Start. IMPORTANT Pathfinder (OD/start boat) has right of way over all other boats leading up to and throughout the start sequence. When the start sequence has completed (indicated by a 2 blast sounding), she then becomes another racing boat, with no special rights of way.

  1. 1 WCA Gate Start IMPORTANT Pathfinder (OD/start boat) has right of way over all other boats leading up to and throughout the start sequence. When the start sequence has completed (indicated by a 2 blast sounding), she then becomes another racing boat, with no special rights of way. WCA Gate Start Sequence Summary (Schematics on Subsequent Slides) Count Down Elapsed Time Sound Notes 5:00 0:00 1 Blast Start sequence commences, Pathfinder in proximity of fixed start mark, with right of way. 4:00 1:00 1 Blast 1 Minute Gone, Pathfinder in proximity of fixed start mark, with right of way. 1:00 4:00 1 Blast 1 Minute to Go, Pathfinder holding position adjacent to fixed start mark, with right of way. 0:00 5:00 1 Long Blast Mass Start, Pathfinder extending a start line on port tack with right of way. NA 7:00 (Max) 2 Blasts Start sequence complete, Pathfinder racing with no special right of way. NOTES # 1 - The Pathfinder/OD/Start Boat will only make soundings throughout the start sequence. First Preparatory Sounding will be at 09.55 Hrs. ~ THERE WILL BE NO STARTING SIGNAL FLAGS ~ # 2 - On the basis that it is extremely difficult for the OD to perform re-call’s, though an over-line (1 blast) sounding will be made, all skippers should endeavour to be extra cautious, and not be over the start line at the starting sound. Should you be unfairly over the start line then it will be noted and if you fail to re-round the fixed start mark then you may be disqualified. If you suspect you are over, then it is your responsibility to re-round the fixed start mark to port.
