  7. Then there is a need to integrate regional railways with local public transport! Goals of the integration: • Use the capacity of the railways in the metropolitan transport • Improve the price/value ratio for the railway passengers (1 ticket instead of 2) • Encourage the inhabitants of the metropolitan area to use public transport • Improve the modal share of the public transport Transport and Economic Growth – An International Perspective

  8. Twofold approach to the railway integration • „common ticket” – contract with regional railway operators Koleje Mazowieckie and Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (Warsaw Commuter Railway) on honouring ZTM fare • founding of own communal railway operator Szybka Kolej Miejska sp. z o.o. (Rapid Urban Railway Ltd) using ZTM fare only Transport and Economic Growth – An International Perspective

  9. SKM Warsaw – a communal train • independence from the other old-fashioned railway companies; • common tariff with other transport means in the city (buses, trams, metro); • decisions concerning vehicles and their equipment are taken by the City Hall; • modern and safe trains thanks to a stable long-term contract with the city (in-house contract in line with 1370/2007); • competition on the tracks.
