  3. Facts • The British retreated after burning down Springfield. • Springfield was known as the “forgotten battle” because all the major battles moved south. • The battle took place June 23, 1780.

  4. Facts continued • Greene used the same defense that later served him well in south places. • General Greene had only about 1,500 Americansoldiers. • A group of 6,000 Hessian soldiers attack the town of Springfield.
