  2. Stressed? Try these 5 things Stress can be a career killer. It’s not productive, it’s not motivational and it’s definitely not healthy. However, all freelancers have to deal with some degree of stress. The job might look happy and cozy on the outside (and sometimes it can be), but there are moments where you feel all responsibilities piling up. Often, you are the only one that can deal with them and that can be tough on any person. Learning to handle with and reduce stress is a must if you want to keep freelancing in the long term. © freelancermap.com 8/10/2015 info@freelancermap.com

  4. 1) Don’t bite off more than you can chew It’s not about doing as many projects as you can – it is much more rewarding, less stressful and better for business if you do few projects with excellent quality. Those are the projects that are remembered and help you grow as a business and a person. Do you have the feeling that there are too many projects that you want to do, but can’t make it alone? Consider teaming up with fellow freelancer, working with people in the same mindset can be both fun and a valuable learning experience. © freelancermap.com 8/10/2015 info@freelancermap.com

  5. 2) Don’t strive for perfection Wanting to be perfect can take a huge toll on a freelancer. It can go as far as blocking and not being able to do any work at all because you are afraid it’s not going to be good enough. If you are in a similar, albeit not so extreme situation, you have to realize one thing – mistakes are good. Learn from them, adapt and don’t be afraid to take risks. Doing that will give you the skillset required to be a successful freelancer. © freelancermap.com 8/10/2015 info@freelancermap.com

  6. 3) Have an “off” button Know when you should stop and don’t hesitate to do it. Don’t take your work home even if your office is there. Have that time of the day when you know that you can just turn the lights off, shut down the computer and go out, watch a movie, read a book or spend the rest of the day with friends. Know when you’re going to press the off button and enjoy the satisfaction of having another fruitful day behind you. © freelancermap.com 8/10/2015 info@freelancermap.com

  7. 4) Priorities Prioritizing is a major skill that you have to learn and improve constantly as a freelancer. If you know that there is a deadline in one week that will require your full attention, let your clients know. Set an automatic response on your email and check it only once per day. Set aside marketing, but don’t forget to get right back on it as soon as you can. Sometimes it can be worth cancelling one project if you have to focus on improving your business internally or establishing your brand. © freelancermap.com 8/10/2015 info@freelancermap.com

  8. 5) Always have a plan B Relying on one thing is never a good idea. As a freelancer, you should always be prepared for the possibility that something doesn’t work out because you are responsible for your whole business. Be ready with a savings plan if your income drops or an unexpectedly slow month hits you. Diversify your client base and have projects in mind in case a big one suddenly goes down the drain. And finally, don’t underestimate the importance of a plan B when your technology is concerned. Have your data saved on more than one place, preferably one that you can access online. Internet or power problems? You should already know where the nearest café or free WiFi hotspot is. © freelancermap.com 8/10/2015 info@freelancermap.com
