EU General Data Overview • A small sector, but very essential to agriculture and environment • The second largest producer in the world with aprox. 200t (after China) • Total number of 15 milion beehives • 600.000 beekeepers but decreasingslowly • Avector of economic growth by pollination of entomophiles cultivated plants • Away of improving the welfare of the rural population as a source of additional income • Apollution sensor as well as a factor for maintaining biodiversity through spontaneous flora pollination

EU apiculture programmes • National three years Programme • Eight big eligible measures • A budget of 36 mlilion/year for 28 Member States representing 50% of the total • EU and Member States common participation to the budget • High rate of success: aprox. 92% usage rate of funds • Allocation according to the beehive share of the Member State • All Member States notified a national apiculture programme for the periods 2011-2013 and 2014-2016 – high interest

EU apiculture programmes • New eligible measures with the new CAP: • 2017-2019 apiculture programme • Technical assistance to beekeepers • Combating beehive invaders and diseases, particularly varroasis (only varroasis was eligible before) • Rationalisation of transhumance • Analysis of apiculture products (previously only honey) • Restocking of hives • Applied research • Market monitoring • Enhancement of product quality
