  1. The New Standard …. Wireless Fixture Technology

  2. What is a Wireless Fixture? Benefits of Wireless Fixtures … Mechanical & Test Performance Wireless Technical Details … T-Board and ECOs Why CCI Wireless? Summary Agenda

  3. A fixture in which a "Multi-layer PCB" replaces the nest of signal wires. The "Translator PCB" (T-Bd) is designed using your typical fixture build files, and Automated PCB design software to replace the wires with copper traces. Double ended Probes connect the UUT to the "T- Board". What's a Wireless Fixture?

  4. Wireless Cross Section Probe Plate WirelessT- Board Double Ended Socket Beef Plate ECO Socket Tail Guide Alternate Probe location

  6. Mechanical Benefits

  7. Better probe pointing accuracy Stable test platform - since maintenance and troubleshooting does not cause signal fidelity changes. Fixture Size kept minimal / reduced weight Streamlined fixture profile takes up less storage space. ECOs are much easier/faster than wired fixtures Duplicate fixtures perform the SAME. End result…Faster debug, Faster Test Time, and Fewer False Failures! Mechanical Advantages

  8. Contacting Small Targets w/Wireless Any misalignment of probe/socket is reduced by top plate guiding. Probe contacts inner 2/3rds of test pad. 0.016 Test Pad Top plate and "tail guide" plate are drilled slightly larger than probe shaft. The "tail guide" helps center the socket before the crush ring Ordinary fixtures allow the probe/socket to have a certain amount of misalignment between the crush ring and hole

  9. Streamlined Profile Spectrum TestStation

  10. Light pipes and LED sensors Other Features

  11. Electrical Characteristics

  12. Signal Integrity Electrical parameters are constant, excellent for low voltage requirements. Enhanced Electrical Characteristics

  13. Enhanced Electrical Characteristics • Boundary scan applications – Ground bounce reduced up to 75% • Analog Test – from UUT to UUT is highly consistent. • If the node is ID’d as being an 'aggressor' or sensitive "victim" net requiring crosstalk protection, extra routing clearance approximately 3x the width of the trace will be provided.

  14. Critical timing applications – very sharp edges Tighter tolerances on analog devices Faster Test Time – shorter delay time during digital signal testing (strobe timing) 'Critical' nodes gets priority routing for trace length that is as short as practical. Enhanced Electrical Characteristics

  15. Anything from hundreds of pull-up resistors, to simple relays and loads. Clock divider circuits embedded on T-Board are tailored to particular signals on UUT. Fixture Electronics built into T- Board Fixture electronics are neat and clean!

  16. Technical Details

  17. Probes contact Hard Gold plated pads over Nickel on 1 oz copper. Standard signal trace width and spacing is 8/8. Power traces are 0.020 – 0.060 wide Multi-layer boards up to 28 layers. CCI Board thickness is 0.220” Separate power and ground planes. Blind vias when needed. IPC Standards Design – IPC 2221 Fabrication – IPC DR-570 Acceptance – IPC A-600 100% electrically checked. 15 years of experience laying out and fabricating "translator" boards. T- Board

  18. T Board Interface view UUT view of T- board • Electronics mounted : • Pull-up/pull-down resistors • Clock dividers • Switching relays TestStation Spectrum

  19. Teradyne T Boards 33 Row LX S885x 18 Row 33 Row

  20. Double-Ended Probe • Probes contacting "T-Board" • Chisel Tip Probe • .150" travel • Fixture set for 80% (.120") compression.

  21. 50 -100 ECO receptacles placed around T-Board perimeter. Add a receptacle and probe from the top. Wire from the added receptacle to an ECO location on top of the probe plate. You are finished adding a test point!!! Wireless ECOs are EasierAdding a New Probe Location w/o Removing T- Board

  22. ECO Process Add New Probe/Receptacle - Connect to Resource Add new test probe Solder to pre-installed ECO socket Your ECO is finished in a few minutes!

  23. ECO Process Add New Probe/Receptacle & solder to ECO location

  24. Clearly Marked ECO Locations

  25. ECO Process: Summary • Easy ECO capabilities • No wire mass to damage. • Easy to locate receptacles and resources. • ECO time is less than a wired fixture! • Drilling new probe locations is significantly easier. • No wire mass • No ground plane burrs to cause shorts. • Quick and Easy ECOs

  26. Why Wireless? Evolved to Evolved to … Why not?

  27. T-Board Layout – Proprietary Automated Software In-House Fabrication T-Board tested for Opens/Shorts with flying prober. Fixture tested for opens & shorts, and the Opens Express/FrameScan are also tested. Comparable turn around time to wired fixtures Value Performance advantages quickly offset the price difference Experience Over 15 years design/fabrication of Wireless Fixtures Proven designs… Cost Effective Solution

  28. CCI Fixturing Accuracy Robust Innovative Designs … combined with the clear advantages of wireless technology! The best of all Worlds

  29. Lead times are too long. …No longer than industry standard turn times… Because CCI controls the process! Value …Performance advantages quickly offset the price difference… ECOs are difficult and time-consuming …False, CCI fixture and T-Bd. designed with added resources- ECOs are easy and fast, as previously displayed!!! Copper content of wires vs. circuit board …Non-issue, how many wire wrap boards have replaced PCB’s? Wireless Fixture Myths Dispelled

  30. Easier ECO process. Fixture electronics built into T- Board. Increased test coverage and integrity, results in fewer false failures – SAVES Time and Money CCI brings it all reliably together Wireless Fixture Summary
