  4. CELLS • All organisms are made up of cells (tiny building blocks) • Unicellular: Single-celled organisms (bacteria) • Multicellular: Organisms that are made up of many cells (plants)

  5. Are made up of chemicals • Water • Carbohydrates • Proteins • Lipids • Genetic material (DNA) Living things must find ways to keep the chemicals balanced (HOMEOSTASIS)

  6. Use Energy • All organisms need nutrients and water for energy • Some organisms make their own food (AUTOTROPHS) • Plants • Some organisms can not make their own food (HETEROTHROPHS) • Animals

  7. RESPOND to the ENVIRONMENT • All organisms react to changes in their environment or a STIMULUS • Organisms react to a stimulus with a response

  8. GROW & DEVELOP • All organisms change and become more complicated as it grows

  9. REPRODUCE • All organisms need to reproduce to keep their species alive
