  1. Common mistakes we make while sending Resumes Lets Grow Together Press F5 for full screen

  2. Why this article ? • We often send our resumes / CV to Employers and rarely get response. • It is frustrating. • We, as a Service Provider and Councilor, experience the problems from both sides. Employers and Candidates. • Here, let’s discuss the mistakes we make while sending our resume / CV.

  3. So what are these mistakes ? • We don't mention Post - Job Position applied for in subject of our Email. • We don't use cover-letter as message. • We use wrong Email address. • We don't mention Date of birth and Sex. • We forget to attach CV - Resume. • We give wrong names to our CV - Resume. • We send email to many employers together. • We send outdated matters. • We do some over-enthusiastic tricks (mostly in ignorance).

  4. Mistake: We don't mention Post. • We don't mention Post - Job Position applied for in subject of our Email. • In 90% case, there is only ‘resume’ typed in email subject. So… • Please mention the post. It is MUST. You can add more details also. See Example. “Application for the post: Customer Care Executive from Ms. Puja Shah (MBA, 3 Years exp.)” It’s also MUST to mention on envelope when you are sending Hard Copy.

  5. Mistake: We don't use cover-letter as message. • At least a paragraph should be there in message. See example:- Dear Sir / Madam, I, Ms. Puja Rasiklal Shah, MBA ( 67% at first attempt, from VNSGU) having work experience of 2 years as Assistant Manager, would like to apply for the suitable position at your firm/company. My detailed resume/ Curriculum Vitae is attached herewith for your kind consideration. Yours faithfully, Shah Puja R. • In fact, it’s better to place a cover-letter. Copy the sample Cover-letter from here.

  6. Mistake: We use wrong Email address. • Examples:- sweetpuja@yahoo.com (Not, its doesn’t look good for applying for college of jobs ) puja1234@yahoo.com (It’s ok, but I would try to avoid using such id’s too) shahpuja.mba@yahoo.com (It looks perfect ) • You can make new account. Don’t worry about having more accounts. You can always forward your messages from other accounts to your favorite account.

  7. Mistake: We give wrong names to our CV - Resume. • Examples:- cv.doc, cv12.doc, resume.doc, puja.doc (These are not OK) pujashah_2009.doc (It's OK) cv_pujashah_mba2009.doc (It looks perfect)

  8. Mistake: We do some over-enthusiastic tricks (mostly in ignorance). • Examples:- • Auto responders. • Avoid them. JUST AVOID THEM. • Auto-invitation. • Facebook or Boxbe or what not. BY DOING THIS, YOU ARE CLOSING THE DOORS YOURSELF FOR NEXT COMMUNICATION. • Hobbies. • Atleast don’t mention such hobbies as ‘Chating with friends, internet surfing’. ( Yes. It’s true. We have many such CVs).

  9. Mistake: We send outdated matter (mostly in ignorance). • Though it’s seen rare, you should give a look everytime you send your CV for such matters. • Bouncing Email address. • Did you laugh ? We can show you many proofs. • None-responding or changed Phone / Mobile numbers. • Confusing Permanent Address. • Confusing work status. • Show clearly your latest working status. • Tips : • Revise your Resume / CV regularly. • “Objective” is outdated. You can remove it. • Put your LIVE Projects as reference.

  10. Other mistakes we make… • We don't mention Date of birth and Sex. • We forget to attach CV - Resume. • We send email to many employers together. • If you want to save time, send them as BCC recipient. Though, I'd suggest you to send only one at a time.
