SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007 WP4 Activities A4.1 - Study and propose multi-disciplinary Grid applications carry out survey and study of potential Grid applications in the region, and help identify the target applications for adaptation and deployment A4.2 - Adapt regional applications of interest support for initial application gridification and deployment A4.3 - Support the deployed applications operational and user support of the deployed applications A4.4 - Asses applications Grid usage and take-up assess and quantify the applications usage of the infrastructure, and application take-up in the community.

SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007 A4.1 Overview Study and propose multi-disciplinary Grid applications Currently there are 23 SEE-GRID-2 applications: 17 old (from the beginning of project) 6 new applications (recently filled in simplified questionnaire) No more new applications will be accepted (project time left is limited) EXCEPT from Albania from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Gridification steps identified: A single grid job to submit tasks manually, also making use of data management for input/output files Organize workflows parallelize the neural network training process for running on several CEs What about ASG support? (Ivica Dimitrovski, Cevat Şener, Miklos Kozlovszky)

More details? • Use of optimization software (SimAnnTSP) developed at INIMA. • Any application identified? • Bosnia and Herzegovina – New Applications • Fill in the questionnaire until November 23, Friday, ARC to assess until December 10. • PARSIMLOC (done on own funds, completed) • Is it deployed in grid? • PMFSA (pension funds) • progressing nicely, Haris has found people for it. • PFE for CBIR (already reviewed at the beginning of the project, being developed) • UoBL started gridification • Application will be deployed before the end of the project (This is a stable running application that has just to be ported to grid. • ETFIS (magnetic fields simulations - currently running, written in fortran) • They started to port their existing application to grid

Application Support Group (ASG) created for gridification support. Application Review Committee(ARC) created to assess existing and new candidate applications. SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007 Gridification Guide Recommendations • If you contribute after December 1st, you may miss the D4.3 train • Keep sync with others, particularly with the topic leader • Try to avoid overlapping • Review and improve others’ contributions • Provide original contributions outside of gLite User Guide • RBI has already prepared an early D4.3 draft; TOC is being finalised • Update both Wiki and .doc, if there are no significant changes • Otherwise paste from Wiki and apply formatting of existing .doc content • We are migrating Wiki -> .doc. Consolidate look and formatting of your contribution within .doc • Make internal links within D4.3 using cross-references “Section x.y” • Make external (Web) links printable: use references or insert URLs • Consistent examples, figures, captions, title capitalisation etc. • Some contributions inform on contributing person/institution. Do it whenever appropriate, but not if you are just doing minor additions, corrections of giving informative overview without significant original contribution

During restructuring phase core modules have been designated. These core modules help students to write their own SLEEP modules, and to test them. These student's modules have been developed as mandatory project assignments on Concurrent and Distributed Programming course. Until now, there were 40 modules developed in this manner, but only 3 of them were deployed as SLEEP modules

They shouldn't have to resubmit several jobs themselves. There is a very high failure rate of jobs, and it is inefficient to try to submit them over and over again.
