Introduction “From Many Peoples Strength” Saskatchewan’s motto • The Honouring Tree Project is a life giving legacy that celebrates diversity • Who we are - the Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum (SACHM) & partners • Our vision is to honour all our pasts, and build new relationships • Invitation to join in ~ let’s discover our future together

  4. What is the Honouring Tree Project? • A symbol of life, legacy, and diversity • It represents opportunity, freedom, hope and belonging “This is not just a symbol, it is about building a community together” SACHM

  5. Why Now? • After 100 years we feel it is time that we give back to the community • We want to celebrate all our pasts, and to build a new relationships for the future • Establish a legacy of inclusion

  6. What Will This Project Involve? • We see the Tree as a rallying point of celebration, and a place where things begin • We see it giving life to new ideas that build community • How do you see your organization connecting to it ? Location- Wascana Centre- near the Royal Saskatchewan Museum

  7. Legacy Activities Already Planned • Plans are underway to hold an Annual Family Walkathon every last Saturday in June • Project invitation to schools during the Education Week in September • To become a Tourist Attraction • SACHM plans annual indoor activities in December You are invited to develop more activities

  8. Our Values and Principles • All are equal and have a contribution to make • No barrier should impede anyone from participating fully • The future is full of hope for all of us

  10. What can you do? • Tell others about this project • Plan events relating to the Honouring Tree and what it represents • Let’s build it together through your time and your financial contribution

  11. How we will honour your contribution • All financial donations will be acknowledged through our Diversity Legacy Supporter Page on SACHM’s website • You will receive invitations/ information to events that occur around the Honoring Tree Project • Contributions of $200 or more will be acknowledged through a plaque • Corporate logos will be on the SACHM website, communications strategies, media events and our overall publicity

  12. What is Needed? Total project Cost $250,000 ($150,000 in cash and $100,000 in-kind) Who has contributed so far? • Government of Saskatchewan • Wascana Centre Authority • City of Regina • University of Regina • Individual & Corporate Cash Donations $119,540 to date in cash and services We need to raise approx.$45,460 in Cash plus Approx. $27,500 in Prof. & Techn. in-kind Support relating to the installation
